Stop Swarm Firefox Extension Privacy Policy

Stop Swarm measures active browsing time on websites selected by the user and progressively displays visual Invaders. All tracking and rendering decisions are made locally in Firefox.

Local onlySettings and today's aggregate remain in Firefox extension storage.

1. Information processed locally

When Stop Swarm is enabled, it reads the URL of the active tab in the focused normal Firefox window. For ordinary HTTP or HTTPS pages, the URL is immediately reduced to its hostname and compared locally with the user's selected domains.

The extension does not persist full URLs, paths, query strings, page titles, page content, browsing history, per-page history or per-domain usage totals. It does not inspect forms, passwords, cookies, messages or user input.

Page visibility, window focus, tab identity and viewport size are used only to decide whether to count time and render Stop Swarm's own overlay.

2. Information stored in Firefox

storage.local contains the enabled setting, daily limit, selected domains, fixed theme identifier, effective local day key, today's aggregate duration and technical checkpoint timestamps.

storage.session contains only the current timing anchor: active state, day key, checkpoint time, tab and window identifiers, and the current hostname/matching domain when available. It is replaced as context changes and cleared with the browser session or extension lifecycle.

storage.sync is not used. Stop Swarm does not synchronize these records through Firefox Sync.

3. Network, sharing and third parties

Stop Swarm does not transmit browsing activity, URLs, selected domains, settings, usage durations or statistics to the developer or any third party. It has no account, backend, advertising, analytics, telemetry or third-party SDK.

All executable code, CSS, icons and translations are packaged with the extension. The only programmatic resource load retrieves the packaged overlay stylesheet from the extension's own moz-extension:// URL.

No personal information is sold, shared or used for advertising, profiling, credit, insurance, employment or eligibility decisions.

4. Permissions

storage keeps settings, today's aggregate and the session timing anchor locally.
alarms performs local checkpoints and the daily reset boundary.
HTTP and HTTPS host access allows automatic operation on user-selected websites. The broad match is necessary because the selected domain list is configurable.

The extension does not request browsing history, tabs, advertising identifiers, location, microphone, camera, clipboard, downloads or native messaging permissions.

5. Retention, controls and deletion

Settings and today's local aggregate remain until the user changes or resets them, clears extension data, or uninstalls Stop Swarm. Firefox removes extension-managed data according to its normal uninstall and storage behavior.

Users can disable tracking, change selected domains and the daily goal, reset today's aggregate, revoke site access in Firefox, clear extension data or uninstall the extension.

6. Firefox limitations

Firefox does not currently expose a reliable system-lock state to WebExtensions. Stop Swarm preserves passive reading and video behavior, so a focused tracked tab may continue to count while the operating system is locked. Stop Swarm cannot operate on privileged Firefox pages, the PDF viewer, Reader View or protected Mozilla domains.

7. Changes and contact

This policy will be updated if the extension's permissions, local processing, storage or transmission behavior changes. The effective date above will be updated for material changes.
